I am a Clinical Psychology Doctoral student at the University of Leeds. I am investigating the long-term psychological needs of men with prostate cancer. I am writing to ask for your help with my study which aims to understand the psychological needs and quality of life of men with prostate cancer, in the UK.
Understanding the psychological impacts of cancer and its treatment has been identified as a top 10 research priority by The National Cancer Research Institute. However, there is a particular lack of this kind of research in men with prostate cancer.
Therefore, we would like to invite UK men who have had a diagnosis of prostate cancer for 1 year or more to complete a brief online survey. The survey takes approximately 20 minutes to complete. The survey will ask questions about quality of life, anxiety, depression, illness representations (the way a person thinks about their illness), body image and masculinity.
This is an important area of research as it may contribute to scientific understanding and help to identify potential interventions that could be used to improve wellbeing.
I am kindly requesting your support in circulating the attached poster, and survey link to your mailing list, or to post them on your online forum, social media or website. Participation is entirely voluntary, and access to the survey is via this link:
Further information can also be found via the link. This study has been reviewed by the School of Medicine Research Ethics Committee, University of Leeds (MREC 20-046), and has received ethical approval.
The results of the research study will be written up for the submission of a thesis for the Leeds Doctorate in Clinical Psychology by Summer 2022. The findings will also be presented at academic conferences and submitted for publication in a scientific journal.
I thank you in advance for your support. If you require any further information please contact myself, Jennifer Kirby (the Doctoral student who is completing this research) on email@example.com.
